Melba Lois (Bullard) Burns, age 85 of Bogata, TX entered heaven’s gates on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, in Mt. Pleasant, TX. She spent the last few years, including her final days telling everyone, “to make sure they knew Jesus, because [she] wanted to see them again.” She was surrounded by many loved ones during her passing. The family was especially grateful for the loving care Melba received from the staff at Titus Regional in Mt. Pleasant.
Melba was born on April 23, 1939, “on the farm” in Sulphur Bluff, TX to Ervin Lawson Bullard and Elvalee May Sloan Bullard. She fell for the love of her life, Donald L. Burns in sixth grade. She was Harvest Queen and he was her escort. They officially “tied the knot” in Midland, TX on November 11, 1955.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Donald, all her children and their spouses: Sharon and John Adams of Amarillo, TX; Larry Burns of Bogata, TX; Sherri and Freddie Harrington of Ashdown, AR; Jeanene and Steve Ward of Bogata, TX; Donnie and Felicia Burns of Austin, TX; and David and Katherine Burns of Lansdale, PA. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren, as well as one sister, Carol Hankins of Bogata, TX. She has many living nieces and nephews that she dearly loved as well.
Melba is preceded in death by her parents, 3 grandchildren - Devonie Young, Christina Boyd and Dakota Ward; 1 great granddaughter, Christian Young; and 3 brothers - Ervin Lee Bullard, Ivan Bullard and Bobby Bullard.
A family-led “Celebration of Life” will be held on May 18, 2024, in Bogata, TX. Please inquire with Melba’s immediate family for further details.
