Jeffrey Whitson Obituary

Jeffrey Dale Whitson, age 50, from Mount Vernon, Texas, met his Savior on Sunday, March 3, 2024, while in a peaceful slumber. Jeffrey was a Hunt county native but relocated to Mount Vernon in 2002 when he met the love of his life, Tricia Yvette Sweeden.  In the outskirts of the city limits,  Jeff and Tricia raised  two sons, Chandler Maddox (19) and Carsen McKay (16).  Jeff was a husband, father, son, brother, and uncle.  Most of all, Jeff was a devoted family man who worked tirelessly to provide for his family.

In his early years, Jeff was born and raised in Hunt County with black clay under his feet.  He spent countless hours outside working on cars with his dad. Once he graduated from Greenville High School, he enlisted in the United States Army and completed basic training in South Carolina. After he returned home, he would join his dad in tractor trailer long haul driving.  This gave him the opportunity to tour the country and begin a career as a FedEx driver where he drove for 26 years.

Although cars and trucks were his career, his real passion was woodworking.  His craftsmanship and original pieces were highly sought after all around the tri-state area.  His work was beautifully crafted and customized furniture that started as a hobby and transformed the future of farmhouse tables.  He began the day early in the morning and loved to be outdoors welcoming the sun with the animals.  He loved fishing and spent his free time casting lines with his son Chandler and thrill seeking with Carsen.  Jeff also enjoyed vacationing when possible with his family, taking road trips.

Jeff was often spoken of as a simple man with an easy spirit.  He was calm and collected and gave little mind to the materialistic things of this world.  He loved life and exuded joy and laughter in all circumstances.

Jeffrey Dale is survived by his wife of nearly 22 years, Tricia Yvette; sons, Chandler Maddox and fiance Josie Woods, and Carsen McKay; his mother, Deborah Whitson, brother, Robert Whitson; nieces, Sarah and Lilly; nephews, Matthew (Whitson), Mason and Stephanie Sweeden, and Marshall and Lizeth Sweeden; brother-in-law, Phillip and wife Aimee Sweeden; mother-in-law, Edna Sweeden, along with a host of aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his father, Carol Whitson; his paternal grandparents, Alice Mae Todd and Cecil Whitson; maternal grandparents, Jerry Dunlap and Rebecca Dunlap and father-in-law, Frankie Sweeden.
